There are many more than 10 reasons or activities on a trip to Germany. This list was designed for those who wonder what to do in Germany in the winter or if it is worthwhile to travel to Germany in the winter.

The answer is yes, it is really worth it, but the trip will require more care than in another period. From the right clothes (don’t worry: with the right clothes, the cold won’t bother you) to a well-prepared itinerary considering the best activities and regions for this time of year.
1 – Christmas markets
For those who want to know Germany, there is no more magical moment than the weeks before Christmas. It is not yet officially in winter, but it is something unique this time of year.
Throughout Germany, from villages to big cities, there is Christmas decoration everywhere, with pine trees, Christmas pyramids, and stalls offering the most varied foods and drinks. Most foods and crafts are typical only at this time of year.

2 – Neuschwanstein Palace
Technically, the Neuschwanstein is not a castle, even though it is called by many. However, whatever its denomination, it is even more impressive in winter.
The visit is worth it even if it is just to see its exterior and set out to explore the wonderful region in the surroundings. There, we offer tours of the Alps, both in Germany and Austria. Oh, and this is not the only palace in the region! 😉

3 – Ice skating at a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Better than that: in an old coal mine! During the winter, Zeche Zollverein Essen (a former industrial complex in western Germany) creates a skating rink for all ages and levels of experience which, in addition to being well organized, is located on a world heritage site. It’s really worth it!
There are many other places where it is possible to ice skate in Germany, whether on artificial rinks or frozen lakes.
4 – The Black Forest!
This is a tip for the whole year, but in winter it gets even more amazing. The feeling is to be inside a movie when walking through this mythical forest, feeling the snow at your feet. And in the Black Forest villages, Christmas markets are even more charming!

For this period of the year, we use 4×4 vehicles to visit the most impressive places without risk or surprises. Ah, a champagne picnic in winter is even more delicious.
5 – Paragliding in the mountains
This is really for those who enjoy a little more emotion.
Flying over the frozen mountains, flying over fairytale-like cities is fascinating.
With the right equipment, cold is not so much of an issue.

6 – Spas
Now imagine: you enter a pool inside your room, pass under the water through the glass that separates your room from the below zero temperatures outside, and ready you are in a heated pool with an incredible view of an all-white world! In addition to the spas being a great relaxation for the body, the view and the environment will be a unique treatment for your mind.

7 – Tobogganing
In English, this winter activity is often called “mountain roller” or toboggan. Anyway, she can’t miss her trip to Germany in the winter.
It is an especially interesting activity for those who do not know or do not want to ski.
And anyone who thinks we’re talking about just going down a few meters is wrong. Some of the tracks are a few kilometers long. 🙂
8 – Sled with dogs
Being pulled by dogs through the forests and plains of Germany is a super adventure for couples and families.
We indicate a lot as an experience that in addition to a surprise will leave everyone with unique memories.
9 – Relax in a chalet
After a wonderful day of sightseeing, imagine relaxing in front of a fireplace.
Maybe with a good wine by hand or even a Glühwein (mulled wine) typical of the period. Through the window, you can see snow falling. To stay in a chalet, it is wrong to think that it is only possible by renting a cabin. Many hotels offer this experience, preserving travelers’ privacy in their chalets.
With our personalized trips, you can live this experience: the cozy atmosphere of a chalet, combined with the comfort that the best hotels can offer.

10 – Visit the best places without crowds
This is one of my favorite winter spots! Most tourists are afraid of the cold and so they end up missing some of Germany’s most interesting attractions. And those who stop coming here at this time of year fail to enjoy something unique, such as the opportunity to see cities and landscapes covered with snow. The cold can be easily overcome with the right clothes and some simple preparations before going for a walk (these tips are also prepared for our travelers). Some activities and places of visitation are closed in the winter, but our itineraries are adapted to make the most of the season and even with special private visits in places closed to the general public.
