Situated in a very special spot, the triple border between Germany, Austria and Switzerland, cut by the powerful Rhine river, lake Bodensee (in German), also known as Lake Constance, is one of the wonders worth a visit for the traveler. With more than 536 km2 of area, this giant that occupies the post of largest lake in Germany and in some points reaches 252 m in depth.

A curious frontier
Interestingly, the Principality of Liechtenstein is also part of this unmarked border which is the Bodensee. The boundaries around Lake Constance are marked, but not in the territory of the lake. What to visit at the Bodensee

At the entrance to its beautiful harbor, protected by the New Lighthouse and magnificent Bavarian Lion, the Bodensee’s clear waters again surprise visitors. When entering the city, its architecture preserved in several facades, the linden trees along the streets, among other highlights, will take the traveler on a wonderful walk. Maximilianstrasse, named after King Maximilian I of Bavaria, is the main street in the historic center of Lindau, on which the traveler will delight in cafes, ice cream parlors and stroll around the surrounding alleys.

For those visiting the Bodensee, Mainau is an amazing discovery. Known as “Flower Island”, Mainau is a large flower garden, with its roses, orchids, giant sequoias, butterflies, just to name a few attractions, in addition to the light trails and landscapes to be explored and discovered by travelers on a beautiful walk. A day that can be shared from children to the elderly, in different settings.

In addition to the cities mentioned that are touched by the Bodensee, the lake itself is the best of all attractions, without forgetting that being close to Austria and Switzerland, provides the possibility to visit these two countries on a day trip.
